Paddle Squad: Confidence-Building Water Sports for Young Adventurers

Our Paddle Squad programme offers an exciting, structured pathway for children and teens to learn and grow through water-based activities. Whether your child is completely new to paddling or ready to take on more advanced challenges, our two-tiered squad system supports them every step of the way.
Beginner Squad
Ideal for younger participants or those new to paddling, this squad focuses on developing essential skills across a variety of crafts, including canoeing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. Safety, confidence, and fun are at the heart of every session, ensuring your child learns how to navigate the water responsibly, while enjoying every moment.

Children in the Beginner Squad also get the exciting opportunity to take part in a group trip to Wales, where they are safely introduced to whitewater paddling in a controlled, instructor-led environment.
Advanced Squad
Once your child has mastered the basics, they can move up to our Advanced Squad, where they’ll refine their paddling skills and take on more challenging water environments. This level is perfect for children who are eager to push their abilities and explore new aspects of water sports, including paddle boarding in Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.

All sessions are led by experienced, qualified instructors, with a strong emphasis on personal development, water safety, and having fun on the water.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award: Bedfordshire's DofE Open Award Centre run by Edusports

Edusports is the Open Award Centre for Bedfordshire. What does this mean?

Essentially, we are licensed by the DofE to deliver the DofE Awards including expeditions and the different sections. The main criteria to be able to register with us is that you live in Bedfordshire. If, you live outside of this county, there are other open awards centres that can help you too.

3 Levels
We are able to help register you for all 3 levels. Before you sign up and commit to your award, we will have a discussion with you about which award is the best suited for you.

At each level, you will need to do 4 sections (5 for Gold) and these have certain time scales attached to them. As you progress through each level, the timescales get longer and the level should get harder, so it is a challenge, encouraging you to come out of your comfort zone. These consist of :
- Volunteering
- Skills
- Physical
- Expedition
- Residential (Gold only).

To register for your Bronze Award, you must be in Year 9 or above. For Silver, Year 10 or above. For Gold, you must be 16 years. All awards must be completed by the age of 25.
Edusports Delivery
Once you've decided to commit and signed up via us, we will register you for your Award. The current cost to register with us is £90.00 per person. This cost is made up of £37.50 for Gold awards and £30.50 for Bronze / Silver which goes straight to the DofE Awarding Organisation to register you for your place. The rest goes towards our license fee and towards some of the time for administration helping you to complete your award.
Once your team decides on the mode of travel for your expedition, we will then be able to work out a cost for your expedition as this is all down to you and your team to decide. Where do you go? How do you travel? We always try to be as cost-efficient as possible. The modes of travel which we can currently within Edusports are:
- Walking
- Mountain biking / cycling
- Sailing
- Paddlesport

You'll meet online with your Group Leader once a half term and then equally for your practice expedition and qualifying expedition as well as any other training days as required.
